On Friday night I met up with Matt Wilson for the annual pilgrimage to Merseyside to look for Natterjack Toads Bufo calamita my favourite UK amphibian. We also met up with Merseyside herpetologist Mike Brown who showed us some new spots. As soon as we parked up we could here the toads calling, their calls being carried on the strong wind. We found plenty of toads but as usual they tended to go quiet when they saw our torch light, so no pics of calling males and no mating activity was seen, but they are later than usual. We also saw a single Common Toad Bufo bufo and Common Frog Rana temporaria.
